Allergic reactions to bee stings are rare, but when they occur they can be severe and even life threatening.

To become allergic to something you must first be exposed or sensitized.  In the case of bee sting allergy the exposure was most likely a previous bee sting that made you allergic or sensitized, setting you up for a future allergic reaction.

Dr. Franz is concerned that sensitization may occur when exposed to bee venom that is now being added to certain facial creams that are touted as a natural alternative to “Botox.”  Bee venom is also being added to honey claiming it will treat inflammation. Since there are no scientific studies that have proven bee venom works and the possibility that sensitization may occur, bee venom products should be strictly avoided.
