It may not be immediately apparent but medical research is conducted just one floor above the Midwest Allergy office at 8080 Ravines Edge Court in Columbus. Medical research is an essential component of a good medical practice in order to provide the latest products and Optimed Research Ltd is helping to achieve that goal. We are committed to providing ample medical research opportunities and expanding collective understanding.

Every pharmaceutical product (medication or device) must navigate an extensive pathway before approval by the Federal Drug Association (FDA). Often it may be 10 to 15 years from the day the product is discovered until it is fully approved by the FDA. Optimed Research is involved with Phase II and Phase III clinical trials in medical disciplines including allergies, diabetes, gout, heart disease and lung disease (COPD and asthma).

Phase II studies are designed to test the product in the target population which exhibit the disease in question. For example, a new product considered beneficial to a certain diabetic population is studied in a small select group of diabetic patients and data is collected which will show if the medication has the desired effect. Once it has passed this initial trial, the pharmaceutical company will recruit centers of research throughout the country with the goal of studying the product in a large population, perhaps 10 to 20,000 subjects as a Phase III trial. Data is collected which will help to determine if the product is superior to conventional agents and at the same time, there is an intensive effort to determine any undesirable side effects of the product.

Optimed Research is closely linked with Midwest Allergy Asthma and Immunology. If your doctor thinks you may be interested and possibly benefit, he or she may suggest that you consider participating in these medical research opportunities. A diabetic study will require several visits to follow and monitor parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar and measurements of kidney and liver function. On the other hand, as asthma or COPD study will follow lung function in addition to blood studies of liver and kidney function. In return for your cooperation and participation, Optimed Research and the company which sponsors the study will compensate you for your time and trouble to enroll. In addition, medication and medical care is provided at no cost to you throughout the study. At no time is the care provided by your physician assumed by Optimed and you will continue to see your doctor and follow his or her advice throughout the study.

Stop by the Optimed research office and let us show you more about our purpose. There may be an opportunity for you to participate, benefit and possibly contribute to furthering medical research for others in the future.
